Riding to the point

We’ve definitely passed the longest day of summer. It’s no longer bright and sunny at 4:30am. I almost needed to turn on my lights at 5am this morning; almost. Actually, when I left home at 5am, the morning was perfect for cycling. It was a little humid and warm but not yet scorching hot.

I met up with the girls from running club and, together, we rode down to Cleveland Point. We rode at a comfortable pace, chatting a bit as we went. The roads are still quiet from the holiday period, which made the road riding even nicer. After reaching Cleveland Point, the girls did some sprints in nearby Raby Bay. I opted out and just cruised up and down the road while they sped along. I don’t want to overdo things at this early stage of my return to training.

Most of the girls stopped for coffee on the way home but I had to get to work. R and I rode home together, tackling a moderate headwind. I am feeling strong on the bike right now. I think the mountain biking I’ve been doing is helping my road cycling.

Total: 52.3km road cycle

    • Moreton Bay is beautiful isn’t it. Though I imagine you see some amazing places where you live now too. Today (yesterday’s tomorrow) I am up to nothing. Fridays are my rest day. My body is quite grateful for the break :)

  1. I admire you for being able to go riding at 5am…that’s quite amazing in my book, given that I all but have a temper tantrum when I need to wake up before 9am! And that’s such an awesome picture!! I love it! …and thanks for stopping by my blog and following!

    • LOL. Some people like mornings and others like evenings. I’m always up early but I also crash out early at night too. We don’t have long daylight hours here in Brisbane, Australia so maybe that’s got something to do with it. Our day always ends between 5:30 – 7:00pm but the sun rises between 4:30 – 6:00am so there’s more chance of morning light (we don’t have daylight savings)

    • Hi Brian,

I am riding a 1996 Trek OCLV 5200. I upgraded the groupset in October 2012 to a Tiagra 10sp and the wheels at the same time to a set of Shimano 501s.

As carbon frames go, this one is well beyond its shelf life but I am still enjoying riding it. If it dies I think I will just transfer the groupset and wheels onto a second-hand steel or alloy frame because I am becoming an old-school bike junkie ;)

Which model Trek are you looking for?
