Overcast skies bring a cool change to the air. It’s quite pleasant outside as I set off. My mountain bike is almost fully repaired since falling off the car. I just have to get a spacer for my rear cassette (I could only get an 8 speed hub but have a 7 speed cassette) and try to get my brakes working properly. In the mean time, I am using a dodgy recycled rear wheel and putting up with brakes that are soft.
I ride alone for the first 5km, enjoying the solitude in the bush. The air is filled with the sound of cicada wings flapping and birds singing. It’s beautiful.
I stumble across the running girls while riding down You’re Kidding. They invite me to join them so I do. The ride is different now. There’s more to think about than when I ride alone. We travel more slowly than I was on my own; that’s just how it is when you ride in a group. We ride together for about 10km before we go our separate ways: them to their cars and me back home.
I enjoyed the ride. It was a good way to start my day.
Total: 19.16km mountain bike ride.
